BIOGRAPHY

Bishop Victor Tyrone Curry has not only maximized and excelled in what God has deposited in him but has also raised the bar for vision, leadership, courage, civic responsibility, ecclesiastical intellect, and compassion to new and unfathomable levels. Bishop Curry matriculated respectively from Florida Bible College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at the historic Florida Memorial College, now Florida Memorial University. His commitment to the principles of higher education compelled him to pursue and earn a Masters of Ministry Degree at the Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary. Additionally, he was honored by Saint Thomas Christian College with an honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree. Bishop Curry also has an earned Doctorate of Ministry Degree from the Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary. Recently he was honored by Florida Memorial University with an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters Degree.

Bishop Curry’s ministerial journey began in 1978 after being licensed in the gospel ministry at the age of 18. He was later ordained in 1982 by childhood pastor, Rev. Joe Cephus Johnson, Senior Pastor of the Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of Hallandale, Florida. Bishop Curry’s first pastorate was the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church of Miami, Florida from 1984 thru May of 1991. Mandated by God to “begin anew,” he along with 17 other faithful souls in obedience to God, established the New Birth Baptist Church Cathedral of Faith International. Ordained to the Office of Bishop of Stewardship with the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship in 1995, Bishop Curry intensified his efforts of leading the lost to Christ and empowering the masses.

The surgical precision with which Bishop Curry dissects and disseminates the Word of God has resulted in unprecedented growth and expansion. The Cathedral of Faith is situated on 13.8 prime acres and features a sanctuary, administrative wing, and the Dr. John A. & Rhonda C. McKinney Complex, home of the Dr. John A. McKinney Christian Academy and Dr. E.V. Hill Bible College at New Birth. The New Birth Family Life Center, a brainchild of Bishop Curry’s, is also on the horizon, with construction scheduled to begin shortly.

Because of Bishop Curry’s visionary leadership, the New Birth Ministry Portfolio has expanded to include; the New Birth Broadcasting Corporation and Gospel Radio Station, AM 1490 WMBM, the Vision to Victory Human Services Corporation, The Dr. E.V. Hill Bible College at New Birth, New Birth Enterprise, which features a state of the art recording studio as well as the New Birth Employment Ministry, a Banquet Hall and office space rental.

As of February 8, 2009 Bishop Curry also pastors the St. Ruth Missionary Baptist Church in Dania Beach, Florida; further exemplifying his unwavering commitment to the Kingdom of God and passion for service to our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. Bishop Curry has been the beneficiary of countless awards and honors to include Citizen of the Year, Pastor of The Year by the Miami Times Newspaper, Future Leader of America, and Humanitarian of The Year, NAACP-Image Award, and the 2003 J M Family African American Achiever Award for Business and Entrepreneurism. Additionally, the Miami Business Magazine tabbed Bishop Curry as one of the 100 most powerful people in Miami. He is the third Vice Moderator of the Florida East Coast Missionary Baptist Association, one of Florida’s largest Baptist ecclesiastical alliances. Additionally, he is an active and vocal participant on Board of Trustees for Florida Memorial University in Miami, Florida. His most recent commendation from the State of Florida Senate is the renaming of NW 135 Street between NW 7 th and NW 27 th Avenue to “Bishop Victor Tyrone Curry Boulevard”, a prestigious honor traditionally reserved for the most revered, yet deceased public servants of our community.

Bishop Curry continues his fight for the under-represented masses of South Florida as the current, second term President of the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. Through increased membership levels, town hall meetings, political forums, and “Get Out The Vote” efforts, the consciousness of community has been stirred and moved to act. Bishop Curry’s firm grasp of the stewardship mantle entrusted to him by God is evident in his insightful series of stewardship messages that include; The Malachi Promise, Where You Treasure Is and The Harvest Stewardship Conference 2003. He has also ministered powerful messages to include The Joshua Generation ~ A Call to Conquer, It’s Time To Reap A Harvest, Scandalous, Forgiven Much, and The Spirit of F.E.A.R. (False Evidence Appearing Real).

Bishop Curry is the accomplished author of three books titled, The Stewardship Test, The Stewardship Task Workbook, and Where Your Treasure Is. These ecclesiastical literary works are designed to minister Godly stewardship principles for effective lifestyle change and management. Additional forthcoming titles authored by Bishop Curry include: ‘It Takes A Fool To Lose Twice’ and ‘How Can I Trust Them With My Soul’. A biography which chronicles Bishop Curry’s life and ministry, titled ‘A Charge to Keep I Have’, is also in the works.

Bishop Curry is a loving father to three God-fearing and beautiful daughters, Victoria, Veronica, and Victory; and he is a grandfather to two adorable granddaughters, Damari and London.
